A Royal Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Lemonade Jug dating 1886 A finely decorated stoneware jug from the highly collectible antique Royal Doulton line of tableware. Set against the royal blue and brown glaze is an applied decorative band of scrolling acanthus leaves. Glazed in pale greens, blues and browns, the foliate design incorporates flowers, seed heads and birds and is bordered by two bands of pale blue palmette motifs. The jug features a silver mounted rim is hallmarked for Birmingham 1887. Ii8iio The base stamps are :-‘Doulton, Lambeth, England”B. B”4664′ The potter’s mark F. Stands for Florrie Jones, a Senior Assistant at Lambeth for many years. Little is known about her personal life or even how long she worked at Doultons, save that she worked for the company before it became Royal Doulton in 1902, and that she was still there in 1928. It is known that Florrie Jones worked with some of the finest designers, amongst them Eliza Simmance and Vera Huggins. The style of the initials F. Corresponds to her later pieces. History The Royal Doulton Company is an English company producing tableware and collectables, dating to 1815. Operating originally in London, its reputation grew in The Potteries, where it was a latecomer compared to Spode, Wedgwood and Minton. Its products include dinnerware, giftware, cookware, porcelain, glassware, collectables, jewellery, linens, curtains, and lighting. Dimensions 8″ (20cm) tall by 4″ (10cm) in diameter.
