Superb Doulton Lambeth Loving Cup – George Hugo Tabor – Sporting Prize – c. A Doulton Lambeth presentation Loving Cup by the rarely found artist George Hugo Tabor. Typical deeply incised foliate decoration to the body of the piece for which Tabor was renowned. The cup has an EPNS rim with the words’Charterhouse Athletic Sports 1887 Pole Jump 1ST Class 1ST Prize’ and so this piece has sporting interest. To the base is the Impressed Doulton Rosette Mark and the impressed date – 1882 – also present is the incised mark for the artist George Hugo Tabor as well as assistant artist Harriett E. An opportunity for the discerning collector to own a piece by this rare artist. 15cm high, 19cm wide (including handles). For complete accuracy there is some minor, and typical, kiln shrinkage from manufacture to the base of the applied handle on one side. Also mentioned for accuracy is a feint line running from the rim down the inside of the piece for approx 2cm – we do not believe this is a crack, it appears shallow and is not visible to the outside of the piece – we believe it is possibly a tool mark that occured during fitting of the EPNS rim.
