Exceptional Doulton Lambeth Oil Lamp Hannah Barlow c. 1882

An extremely rare Doulton Lambeth Hannah Barlow oil lamp complete with original fittings and Hinks Duplex Burner. The body is sgraffito decorated with goats in a landscape scene and is dated 1882 to the base of the oil reservoir. A very fine and extremely rare Doulton Lambeth oil lamp complete with original metal fittings and Hinks Duplex Burner. Surrounding the sgraffito decorated main body are a herd of finely detailed goats in a landscape scene. Above this sits the oil reservoir – in our opinion possibly decorated by Lucy Barlow – and the lamp is in working order if required. To the base of the oil reservoir is the Doulton Lambeth Rosette mark and the impressed date – 1882. We have not endeavoured to remove the base plate as we believe it is common sense not to do so. 46cm high – without glass, 70cm high – with glass, maximum width at base 22cm, unpacked weight 7.5kg. The piece has at some time been converted for electricity – this has been sensibly done between the metal base and the bottom of the vase and not by drilling into the body – no damage or detraction to the stoneware. There are two small restorations to the lip of the stoneware oil well – these cannot be seen when the reservoir is mounted on the base. The glass funnel and cover are not original but are tasteful replacements. Otherwise in good antique condition. An exceptionally rare item for the serious collector.
