Antique Victorian Doulton Lambeth England Stoneware Motto Jug Pitcher 7629
Add threetreefrogs to favourites. EXCEPTIONAL DOULTON LAMBETH STONEWARE MOTTO JUG. Presenting an exceptionally fine antique Doulton Lambeth stoneware motto jug or pitcher dating to the late 1800s. This wonderfully impressive piece features four applied relief portraits contained within sun-shaped medallions. Four motto’s surround the medallions reading For every ill beneath the sun there is a remedy or none If there be one then try and find it If there be none then never mind it. This superb piece has an appealing form, with bulbous shaped body leading to a squat neck and flared rim. A large applied strap handle beautifully connects the shoulder with the rim. This piece is finished in a wonderfully earthy brown salt glaze, with deep brown trimming the foot, shoulder and the underside of the flared rim. SIZE: This impressive piece stands approx 180mms tall excluding the handle and measures 135mms in diameter at its widest excluding handle. CONDITION: This exceptional example is presented in very good antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There are a few exceptionally tiny fleabite sided nibbles to the tips of the sun shaped medallions, extremely minimal and noticeable only on very close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. This piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly. MARKS: This piece is beautifully marked to the base with an impressed “Doulton Lambeth England 7629″ impressed initials “SN” and the decorators inscribed mark. Antique Doulton Lambeth Queen Victoria Jug Pitcher w Sterling Silver Rim 1897 Di
Doulton Lambeth Silver Rimmed Stoneware Harvest Jug. This is a jug or pitcher made by Doulton Lambeth in 1897 to celebrate the 60th year Diamond Jubilee of the reign of Queen Victoria. The piece is made in a salt glazed stoneware type pottery with molded slip decoration with the likeness of the young Queen when she began her reign and Victoria as she is in 1897. Also inscribed around the darker brown glaze is Dei Gratia=Victoria=Queen & Empress. And around the body in the lighter glaze She Wrought Her People Lasting Good. The jug has a sterling silver rim, hallmarked with the London assay leopard head, the lion denoting sterling quality, the letter b, denoting the year 1897, and the makers mark for William Hutton and Sons Ltd. The piece is stamped on the underside with the Doulton Lambeth England mark and the number 4837. It is also stamped with ttt. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, but does have two areas with some dings to the top edge of silver rim (see last close-up photo) and some speckling underglaze, typical of salt glaze and original to the making of the piece. The jug measures 7 5/8 in height and 7 1/4 in width from the front to the back of the handle. It weighs 2 lbs and 12 oz. This is a beautiful display item and a great addition to a British Royalty collection! PLEASE SEE THE PIC’S. Pair of Doulton & Slaters Patent Lambeth stoneware vases 17.5cm high x 9cm diameter. No visible marks, cracks, chips, or damage whatsoever. These are very sturdy little vases in the distinctive art nouveau Doulton Slaters style. The pattern on the base of the vase was achieved by laying lace onto the un-fired clay. And then hand-finishing with colour after firing before being glazed. The effect produces a stunning textured finish. The neck of the vase is a gloss glazed finish decorated with dark green flowers against a. Contrasting lighter green background. The top and bottom of the neck is finished with a mosaic tile pattern and brown glazed ring. This vase represents Royal Doulton’s efforts to offer designs that show an empathy with both the established Arts and Crafts and emerging Art Deco influences. Florence Roberts was one of the company’s longest serving employees having joined in 1879 and eventually retiring in 1930 and thereby witnessing the golden age of the Lambeth Studios. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department.
