SUPERB DOULTON LAMBETH MAORI ARTS ” KAI ORA ” JARDINIERE with FINE RELIEF MASKS. This is a wonderful large jardiniere pot in the Kai Ora Maori arts pattern made at the Doulton Lambeth factory in, I would guess, in the early 20th. Century (1907+ to commemorate New Zealand having attained dominion status). It is depicted in the standard shouldered tapering jardiniere form decorated with large blue and light blue bands with the latter framing fine relief Tiki, masks, and ” kai ora ” in relief sprigs. It is back marked with the royal Doulton mark and a hand inscribed mark’E….. ? (both quite obscured due to base glaze but still mostly readable) – for all see photographs and details. It measures 7 1/2″ (19cm) h x 8 1/2″ (21.5cm) dia. (at the rim) approx; and is in excellent condition with nothing untoward to report apart from a small narrow, shallow sliver chip to the underside of the top flange (difficult to see unless you are looking from the underside – I missed it) and some firing hairlines to the applied sprigs (obviously factory done and retailed this way) – again see photographs and details. This is a superb large piece of period Doulton Lambeth pottery with great Maori / New Zealand interest that is in nice condition and with a low start price should interest all collectors.
