LOVELY LATE 19th. CENTURY DOULTON MATCH STRIKERCH STRIKER

CENTURY DOULTON MATCH STRIKER. This is a wonderful Doulton stoneware match striker which dates I would guess from the end the 19th. Century to the beginning of the 20th. Its striking (no pun intended) feature is the relief frieze around its centre, which within a treacle coloured glaze is a geometric diamond pattern with applied high relief. Blue and white buttons surrounded by relief white oak leaves, while above and below in blue diamonds the white oak leaves are again repeated. Above is the heavily textured striking shoulder and above this is a wide relief blue rim to the match holding centre. The base is embossed with the Doulton mark and – “3967”, “661”, “a”, and what I assume is the artists mark “al” (probably for Annie Lyons) – see photographs and details. It measures 3″ (7.5cm) h x 3 3/4″ (9.5cm)w approx; and is in excellent condition with no defect at all to report. This is a lovely piece of period Doulton in near perfect condition (looks to never have been used) which with a low start price should have great appeal to both Doulton and match striker collectors. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE.
