RARE, LARGE, & EARLY DOULTON LAMBETH SALT GLAZED CYCLING EWER by JOHN BROAD
RARE, LARGE, & EARLY DOULTON LAMBETH SALT GLAZED. CYCLING EWER by JOHN BROAD. This is a wonderful and I would think quite rare, large, and early Doulton Lambeth salt glazed cycling ewer made at the Doulton factory Lambeth, London which dates, I would guess, to the latter part of the 19th. 1890’s I would guess. It is depicted as a large ewer in tapering form and in the two-toned salt glazed style with a silver-plated rim, looped handle, and fine applied slip sprigging entitled’PATH’,’MILITARY’,’ROAD’, while the ewer is entitled’SPEED WHEEL’ in a ribbon encompassing its neck. The base is stamped with the Doulton Lambeth Factory mark, Broad’s mark is absent, although he is known to have designed this series – for all see photographs and details. It measures 8″ (20.5cm) H x 3 7/8″ (9.75cm) W (at the base) approx; and is in excellent condition for a piece of its type and age with no defect at all to report, in fact it looks to have not been used at all (as are all these unusual pieces of the Doulton Lambeth collection I have recently bought and will be putting out in the near future) – again see the photographs. This is a lovely quite rare and unusual piece of period Doulton Lambeth Cycling interest pottery in great condition that with a realistic, yet low start price should get considerable interest from collectors. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. Almost everything I sell is in the condition I have bought it, unless otherwise stated, (I have learnt to my cost in the past not to tamper with an item), and therefore I have neither had items repaired nor restored. I will endeavour to report on an item which has had either; however I take no responsibility if an item has been tampered with and I cannot detect it. Please don’t waste your time asking for a b. I will dispatch goods on clearance of any of the above. I do not accept – non UK. All parcels are well packed and protected with strong boxes, bubble wrap and packaging peanuts where necessary. So please read them carefully as they are binding. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need additional information.
