STUNNING EARLY DOULTON LAMBETH HAND & PAINTED TUBE LINED EWER by MARK V MARSHALL
STUNNING, EARLY DOULTON LAMBETH HAND & PAINTED TUBE LINED EWER. By MARK V MARSHALL. This is a wonderful large stoneware tube-lined Ewer made by the celebrated Artist Mark V. Marshall, assisted by Emily J. Partington, at the Doulton Lambeth factory in, I would guess, the late 19th. Century (I would guess 1878-79 because of its very low production number -see back marks, his tenure at Doulton and was 1878 to 1912). It is depicted in a large depressed ovoid form with a tall, wide, ribbed, neck and lip and fine ribbed loop handle. And is decorated with large colourful hand tube-lined and (sponge) painted abstracted floral motifs, while to its shoulder are three fine tube-lined Fleur-de-Lis images. It is back stamped with the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark together with the model number’284′ and hand inscribed monograms for Marshall and Partington – for all see photographs and details. It measures 7″ (18cm) H x 6″ (15.25cm) W (handle to lip) approx; and is in excellent condition with no defect of any kind to report, apart from very slightest wear consummate with its age. This is a superb large piece of very early period Doulton Lambeth pottery by one of their most celebrated Artists that is in superb original condition and with a realistic, yet still low start price should attract all collectors. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. Almost everything I sell is in the condition I have bought it, unless otherwise stated, (I have learnt to my cost in the past not to tamper with an item), and therefore I have neither had items repaired nor restored.
