A Royal Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Vase Date : c. 1920 Origin : Lambeth, London, England Features : The upper body banded with a frieze of quince-type fruit and spear shape leaves against a pale blue ground Marks : Impressed Lion, Crown and Circle mark and Incised initials F R for Florence Roberts Type : Stoneware Size : Height 27cm Condition : Good Restoration : None Weight : 997 grams. This vase represents Royal Doulton’s efforts to offer designs that show an empathy with both the established Arts and Crafts and emerging Art Deco influences. Florence Roberts was one of the company’s longest serving employees having joined in 1879 and eventually retiring in 1930 and thereby witnessing the golden age of the Lambeth Studios. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department.
