An Early Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Jug by George Tinworth. Circa 1869
A very nice and quite rare piece of Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug with incised and applied flowerhead decoration, a nice strap handle and a circular foot. The base is signed by George Tinworth. Before the arrival of George Tinworth Doulton Lambeth made only functional items like drainpipes and sanitary wares. George joined the firm after studying at Lambeth School of Art and started to make decorative items such as this beautiful jug. Soon after Arthur Barlow joined with his three sisters Hannah, Florence and Lucy. Many other artists were to follow but these people were trail blazers and the art is increasingly collected and growing in value in America. This piece is 22cm high.
