Antique Doulton Lambeth Queen Victoria Jug Pitcher w Sterling Silver Rim 1897 Di
Doulton Lambeth Silver Rimmed Stoneware Harvest Jug. This is a jug or pitcher made by Doulton Lambeth in 1897 to celebrate the 60th year Diamond Jubilee of the reign of Queen Victoria. The piece is made in a salt glazed stoneware type pottery with molded slip decoration with the likeness of the young Queen when she began her reign and Victoria as she is in 1897. Also inscribed around the darker brown glaze is Dei Gratia=Victoria=Queen & Empress. And around the body in the lighter glaze She Wrought Her People Lasting Good. The jug has a sterling silver rim, hallmarked with the London assay leopard head, the lion denoting sterling quality, the letter b, denoting the year 1897, and the makers mark for William Hutton and Sons Ltd. The piece is stamped on the underside with the Doulton Lambeth England mark and the number 4837. It is also stamped with ttt. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, but does have two areas with some dings to the top edge of silver rim (see last close-up photo) and some speckling underglaze, typical of salt glaze and original to the making of the piece. The jug measures 7 5/8 in height and 7 1/4 in width from the front to the back of the handle. It weighs 2 lbs and 12 oz. This is a beautiful display item and a great addition to a British Royalty collection! PLEASE SEE THE PIC’S.
