Doulton Lambeth large commemorative vase celebrating the life of Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield, 1804 -1881. Superb relief image of Disraeli surrounded by laurel leaves and topped with his coronet. Text inscribed’I will sit down now, but the time will come when you will hear me’ (from his maiden speech in the House of Commons) and’I have begun several things many times and I have often succeeded at last. A very unusual item. Expensive to produce originally. The base is marked with no less than 5 artists’ or assistants’ initials/cyphers. These commemoratives of Disraeli are quite rare but when found are almost always a jug. A vase is very unusual. Mark: Impressed’Doulton Lambeth’ mark. Also impressed’John Mortlock, Oxford Street’ (the retailer). No chips, cracks or damage noted. Size: 23cm (9in) tall. Diameter at top 10cm (4in). Diameter at base 11cm (41/4in).
