Antique Doulton Lambeth Stoneware William Gladstone Commemorative Jug 1809-1898

This original Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug was issued in 1898 to celebrate the life and achievements of the Prime Minister, William Ewert Gladstone (1809 – 1898). It is transfer printed with details of his life and philosophy -‘England’s Great Commoner’ Born Dec 29 1809 Died May 19 1898’Effort – Honest Reflective Action, Manful, Humble upon Character, Effort – Succeeds better than success’. It is in excellent condition with no chips or crazing but there is a fine hairline from the bottom of the handle into the base. (See photos 6, 8 & 10). It has the impressed DOULTON LAMBETH ENGLAND mark used c. 1891 – 1956 and the number 8495. Please examine all photos carefully as they constitute part of the description. Height: 7 1/4 (18.5 cm).
