Doulton Lambeth Queen Victoria Golden Jubilee 1837-1887 Empire Jug Annie Shelton
Antique Doulton Lambeth salt glazed jug made to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Victoria in 1887. The jug is set with an applique white figure group in the centre depicting Queen Victoria in majesty flanked by figures representing Peace and Commerce. Four other figure groups depict the Orient, India, the Americas, and Britannia (with a lion) paying homage to the great Queen. The central group is topped and tailed by the dates 1837 and 1887. The top of the mug has a garter containing the motto’Honi soit qui mal y pense’ (‘Shame be to him who thinks evil of it’). The top quarter of the mug has been dipped in a rich brown salt glaze. At the base are four applique trumpeting angels. The base is stamped’Doulton, Lambeth’ with Rd number’71203′, Artist marked Annie Shelton Size: 18cm high, 8.5cm base diameter, 13cm widest point (excluding handle) – 14cm wide from pourer to handle Condition: Two chips to the opening rim, (see photo) otherwise the jug is perfect with no cracks or hairlines. Weight over 1Kg unpacked. The base is stamped’Doulton, Lambeth’ with Rd number’71203′, Artist marked Annie Shelton.
