To the base is the Doulton Lambeth mark along with the impressed date – 1874 – also present is the incised artist mark for Arthur Barlow. The vase sits on a rounded foot that supports a slightly wider body before narrowing again at the neck and giving way to a gently flared rim. The piece is decorated with a foliate design with applied florets and beads that is typical of the artist. To the base of the vase is the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark and the impressed date – 1874 – also present is the incised mark for the artist Arthur Barlow. Pieces of this size by Arthur are extremely rare and the vase presents a fine opportunity for the discerning collector to own an early and important piece. The vase is in good antique condition. There has been some professional restoration to some nibbles at the base of the footrim and also to some typical bruises to the heads of some of the florets – there is a burst glaze bubble (pin head size) at the rim.
