An antique stoneware Doulton Lambeth vase by John Broad decorated with enclosed panels of prunus and butterflies in relief and with lions head handles to the shoulders. To the base is the Doulton Lambeth rosette mark – also present is the incised artist mark for John Broad and assistants. Doulton Lambeth Vase – Prunus & Butterflies In Relief – Lions Head Handles – John Broad – c. A superb Doulton Lambeth stoneware vase by John Broad. The vase has decorative panels to each side and enclosed within each, in relief, is a flowering prunus branch surrounding a butterfly in flight. To the shoulders are lions head handles that sit just below the rim of the vase. To the base is the Doulton Lambeth rosette mark as well as the incised artist mark for John Broad and other assistant artists including Alice M. The vase is in good antique condition without chips, cracks, or restoration – for complete accuracy there are some tiny grazes to the edge of some of the raised prunus petals apparent on only the closest inspection – this is the best example of a relief decorated John Broad vase that we have seen.
