Antique Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Tyg 1904 Frogpot Tankard Kissock
NEW YEAR SALE – PRICE DROP! Hunting scenes, hounds, foxes, a drunken man asleep on a barrel and the handles are hound-shaped, typical of Doulton Stoneware. Made in Denby, Derbyshire. This is something of a family heirloom. John Kissock was the third husband of my great-great grandmother, a Scottish soldier. I suspect this Tyg may have been a present to commemorate the date he left the army. It’s a drinking pot with a surprise – presumably as you drain the ale, you reveal a frog, sat in the bottom of the pot! This was known in the family as the “Frogpot”. The only damage over the past 117 years is the loss of part of the frog’s front feet – I suspect I may have broken them off in the late-’60s!
