ANTIQUE, DOULTON, LAMBETH, STONEWARE PITCHER COMMEMORATING GLADSTONE P. For your consideration, a very fine and handsome stoneware pitcher or jug, made at Lambeth by Doulton to commemorate the death of William Ewart Gladstone, the long serving Prime Minister of England under Queen Victoria. Elected to four terms, spanning 12 years, he is considered by many historians England’s greatest statesman. This large strap handled jug or pitcher, features a quotation, “Effort, honest, manful, humble effort – succeeds by its reflective action upon character better than success” on a banner, that swirls on either side of a beautiful center portrait medallion of Gladstone himself. A legend, “William Ewart Gladstone” adorns a band at the neck, just below the spout. We see no damage or flaw. Extensive markings on base. A very substantial piece. Royal Doulton Lambeth Slater Vases blue and gold lace No. 1690 Circa 1900’s
An excellent and very attractive pair of Royal Doulton Lambeth stoneware salt ware vases. Both vases are clearly marked on the base along with several other impressions. The vases measure 28 cm in height x 9 cm in diameter. Of classical design each surface has been impressed with lace while the clay was still wet before being overpainted with gold glaze. These fine vases also feature raised decadent floral detailing in cream with a dark blue background to the main body of the vases. Super decorative and a great addition to any collection. One vase is signed by Vera Higgins and the other believed to be the signature of Francis C Pope. Please remember that the items offered are vintage or antique. By nature, they most likely have some signs of wear commensurate with age.
