Doulton Lambeth impressed mark to the base as well as the early incised marks for Mark Marshall and assistant artist ethel Beard. A Very Early Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Jug by Eliza Simmance. Her first year
For sale today we have this Outstanding Example of really Early Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Pitcher by Senior Artist Eliza Simmance. Created in Eliza’s first year at Lambeth, the spherical jug features an all over relief design of scrolling feather like foliate forms, that have been glazed white and blue. Further embellished with applied rosettes to the collar and a strapwork handle. Fully marked to the base with a Doulton Lambeth “Oval” mark with no date. Incised “ES” for Simmance. 14 cm tall x 12 cm across. A truly beautiful pitcher presented to the market in outstanding condition, being free from any damage or repair. Doulton Lambeth, Lemonade Jug, Hannah Barlow, Stag, Deer And A Fox, Dated 1885
Here i have for sale, a Doulton Lambeth Lemonade jug, designed and decorated by Hannah Barlow, dated 1885. The jug stands 9 inches in height and measures 3.25 inches across the top rim and 5.25 inches across the base. The jug is decorated very well, showing Stags and deer, and a Fox that looks like it is running for its life, the detail is neat a precise, a very nice piece. The condition of this piece is very good, a couple of things worthy of mention, there is one bead missing from the top row, this is glazed over and happened during the manufacturing process, there are also 3 beads missing on the bottom row, again, these are glazed over and happened at the time of making, also there are a few burst glaze bubbles, not unusual for Doulton Lambeth, nearly all of them are glazed over and are smooth to the touch, but there are a couple that have not glazed over and feel a little rough, they all happened during the manufacturing process and have been there since it came out of the Kiln, none of them detract from what is a stunning piece. Apart from the above mentioned, there is nothing else to note, and no post production issues and no restoration, guaranteed. Any white marks or other are either camera glare or under glaze. Who ever buys this jug will not be disappointed and it would make a great addition to any collection. Any questions feel free to ask.
