SUPERB DOULTON LAMBETH MAORI ARTS KAI ORA JARDINIERE with FINE RELIEF MASKS
SUPERB DOULTON LAMBETH MAORI ARTS ” KAI ORA ” JARDINIERE with FINE RELIEF MASKS. This is a wonderful large jardiniere pot in the Kai Ora Maori arts pattern made at the Doulton Lambeth factory in, I would guess, in the early 20th. Century (1907+ to commemorate New Zealand having attained dominion status). It is depicted in the standard shouldered tapering jardiniere form decorated with large blue and light blue bands with the latter framing fine relief Tiki, masks, and ” kai ora ” in relief sprigs. It is back marked with the royal Doulton mark and a hand inscribed mark’E….. ? (both quite obscured due to base glaze but still mostly readable) – for all see photographs and details. It measures 7 1/2″ (19cm) h x 8 1/2″ (21.5cm) dia. (at the rim) approx; and is in excellent condition with nothing untoward to report apart from a small narrow, shallow sliver chip to the underside of the top flange (difficult to see unless you are looking from the underside – I missed it) and some firing hairlines to the applied sprigs (obviously factory done and retailed this way) – again see photographs and details. This is a superb large piece of period Doulton Lambeth pottery with great Maori / New Zealand interest that is in nice condition and with a low start price should interest all collectors. Art Nouveau Royal Doulton Vase By Frank Butler, 1907
Here we have a stunning 11 inch high Art Nouveau Royal Doulton vase by one of their finest artists Frank Butler from 1907. The main body of the vase has a greenish blue ground on which is a flowing design of leaves and stems with a distinctive Art Nouveau whiplash at the bottom end. The short neck of the vase is a caramel brown and there is a signature Doulton deep blue rim. Frank A Butler was at the Doulton Lambeth factory for just short of 40 years from 1872 to 1911, so this vase comes from towards the end of his time there. He was an extraordinary man, profoundly deaf and virtually mute, who expressed his creative genius in his work for Doulton. Queen Victoria was known to be a great admirer of his work, which encompassed a wide variety of different styles. Condition of the vase is very good with no chips or cracks. It would look beautiful with cut flowers spilling out of it or make an eyecatching decorative piece in its own right. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description. The vase is a good size, standing 28cm / 11 ins high. It weighs 1.18kg. Doulton Lambeth became Royal Doulton in 1902 when Edward VII give the factory their royal warrant and the early Royal Doulton mark with the crown and lion is clearly stamped on the bottom. Next to this is the letter h in a shield which is the date code for 1907. There is the product number 408 and the very distinctive FAB monogram for Frank A Butler. The item “ART NOUVEAU ROYAL DOULTON VASE BY FRANK BUTLER, 1907″ is in sale since Friday, March 19, 2021. This item is in the category “Pottery, Porcelain & Glass\Stoneware\Doulton Lambeth”. Rare Doulton Miniature Mark V. Marshall Designed Bird 1905
MARSHALL DESIGNED BIRD – 1905. This is a wonderful and I would think very rare stoneware miniature figure of a bird designed by one to the Doulton factory’s leading artist/designers Mark V. Marshall at the Lambeth works in the first decade of the 20th. Century (I think 1905 – see back mark). In a stylised bird form it is depicted in a deep cobalt blue with the high points in a lighter shade to give it a further three dimensional effect. The base has the above mentioned impressed Royal Doulton mark and the’d’ number’2417′ (1905) – see detailed photographs. It measures 3″ (7.5cm) H x 2 3/4″ (7cm) L approx; and is in very good condition with only a couple of very tiny frits to the raised rim around the left eye to report (although they look large in the pics, in reality are hardly noticeable), apart from this there are no other chips, cracks, or restoration – again see photographs and details. Marshall, like Tinworth and the Barlow sisters, was at Doulton from its inseption and his work is now regarded as some of the finest to have emerged not only from the Doulton factory but english potting in general. This is a lovely, rare piece of period miniature Doulton ceramics by one of their very best designers that’s in great condition and with a low start price should attract a good deal of attention from all collectors. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. Almost everything I sell is in the condition I have bought it, unless otherwise stated, (I have learnt to my cost in the past not to tamper with an item), and therefore I have neither had items repaired nor restored.
