For sale today we have this Tall and Dramatic Art Nouveau Vase by Doulton Lambeth senior artist Frank A Butler. Featuring a “pushed out” and deeply incised design that mixes stylised foliate forms with strong geometric shape across the entirety of the vase. Stands an imposing 13 tall. Stamped with a Royal Doulton Lambeth crown mark with date letter “g” for 1906, incised FAB 997 for Butler. In super condition with no damage or repair guaranteed. CENTURY (1907+ TO COMMEMORATE NEW ZEALAND HAVING ATTAINED DOMINION STATUS). IT IS DEPICTED IN THE STANDARD SHOULDERED TAPERING JARDINIER FORM DECORATED WITH LARGE BLUE AND LIGHT BLUE BANDS WITH THE LATTER FRAMING FINE RELIEF TIKI, MASKS, AND ” KAI ORA ” IN RELIEF SPRIGS. THIS IS A VERY RARE, AND QUITE EARLY GOTHIC REVIVAL VASE (THIS PIECE WAS CATALOGUED AS AN ALTER VASE, IT HAS A COLLECTOR’S LABEL TO THAT EFFECT, HOWEVER ON BALANCE I THINK’GOTHIC REVIVAL’ SHOULD COVER MOST BASES EVEN IF IT IS AN ALTER PIECE, WHICH IT MAY WELL BE) IN A MEDIEVALIST FORM DESIGNED BY EMILY STORMER AT THE DOULTON LAMBETH FACTORY IN 1879. IN A QUATREFOIL FORM FLARED TO THE RIM WITH BULBOUS BODY STANDING ON A LARGE TRUMPET FOOT, IT IS DEPICTED IN THE GOTHIC STYLE WITH A HAND INCISED FOLIATE DESIGN TO ITS ENTIRE BODY, SPRIGGED FLOWERETTES TO ITS CENTRE AND DECORATIVE BEADWORK TO THE QUATREFOIL NECK , WHILE THERE IS A MONOGRAM IN A CATROUCHE. An exceptional antique Doulton Lambeth salt glazed commemorative jug honouring the life of Benjamin Disraeli, Early of Beaconsfield with a relief moulded portrait to the body with crown above and with incised sayings by Disraeli with his dates of birth and death around the top rim. The jug was made for retailer John Mortlake, Oxford Street, London with impressed marks to the base and also has a diamond registry mark for 1881 and artist initials MA for Mary Aitken. Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Hannah Barlow Deer Jug C1912
This stoneware jug , was made by Doulton , circa 1912, and bears the factory marks , on the base. It was decorated by Hannah Barlow , with three deer grazing , and bears Hannah Barlow’s monogram , on the base. It stands at 9 3/8″ high and measures 6″ in diameter from the spout to the handle.
