Early Doulton Lambeth Vase – Intricate Decoration – Elizabeth Fisher – c. An early antique Doulton Lambeth stoneware vase by Elizabeth Fisher, sitting on a rounded foot that gives way to a bulbous body and an elegant slender neck with a gently everted rim. A variety of decorative techniques have been employed to this well executed piece. To the base is the Doulton Lambeth impressed mark and date – 1877 – as well as the incised mark for the artist Elizabeth Fisher and her assistant Eleanor Burrell. 25cm high, maximum diameter 14cm – 7.5cm at the base. Victorian Doulton Lambeth Vase By Eliza Simmance, 1883
Here we have a beautiful Victorian Doulton Lambeth vase by Eliza Simmance from 1883. It is an oviform vase with a short neck decorated in a late Victorian style featuring floral, foliate and geometric decoration on a chocolate brown ground on the upper part of the body and a sage green ground on the lower part. It stands approximately 17cm / 6.75 high. Eliza Simmance was one of Doulton’s most accomplished and longest serving artists, working at the Lambeth factory from 1873 to 1928, a period of 55 years. She was at the forefront of Doulton’s change in style from Victorian Gothic to flowing, organic Art Nouveau in the late 19th and early 20th century and then to the more geometric Art Deco styles in the 1920s. Her work for Doulton is among the most sought after by collectors and this is a fine example of her artistry from the late Victorian period. The vase is in extremely good condition with no chips or cracks and just a couple of tiny firing flaws under the glaze which in no way detract from the beauty of the piece. Please make sure to view all the photos as these form part of the description. The marks on the bottom of the vase include the Doulton Lambeth roundel stamp with the date 1883 next to it. Eliza Simmance’s ES monogram is accompanied by the MA incised mark for Mary Aitken, who worked as part of Eliza Simmance’s team. The item “VICTORIAN DOULTON LAMBETH VASE BY ELIZA SIMMANCE, 1883″ is in sale since Saturday, November 28, 2020. This item is in the category “Pottery, Porcelain & Glass\Stoneware\Doulton Lambeth”.
