RARE, EARLY, DOULTON LAMBETH HAND SCRIMMED & GILDED VASE. By WILLIAM PARKER 1884. This is an early stoneware vase designed by William Parker and was decorated by (unsure may be – Emily Stomer or Eliza Hubbert) at the Lambeth factory dating to 1884. It is depicted in a shouldered, slightly bulbous, tapering form with fine and intricate hand scrimmed and gilded images of a stylised floral motif between bands of amber / tortoise shell glaze on a light blue mottled ground accentuated with hand gilded enhancements. The base is stamped with the above mentioned Doulton Lambeth mark, date, as well as Parker’s and other hand inscribed monograms, plus various other marks – see photographs and details. It measures 8 1/4 (21cm) H x? 1/2 (19cm) W approx; and is in good condition with some age-related wear to the gilding and two shallow sliver chips to the underside of the base rim to report (one is glazed over and there is more than enough rise in the foot to have these ground out if you wish, as they’re quiet shallow) – see photographs and details. This is a wonderful rare early piece of period Doulton Lambeth stoneware which is in great condition and with a low start price should get considerable interest from all Doulton collectors. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. Almost everything I sell is in the condition I have bought it, unless otherwise stated, (I have learnt to my cost in the past not to tamper with an item), and therefore I have neither had items repaired nor restored.
