Superb Doulton Lambeth Saltglaze Stoneware art pottery Clock Case J. W. Benson
A superb art pottery clock case by the Doulton Lambeth factory – dates from late Nineteenth Century. Of architectural style – the clock stands on a stepped base and rises to a pedimented pyramidal roof. Beautifully decorated to the front and sides with flowing stylised plant forms and coloured in a rich Majolica mix of blues and browns. The clock face is signed J. Benson 25, Old Bond Street London. The Doulton factory backstamp is on the back of the clock. Height – 26 cms. There are some small areas of damage but overall the clock case is in very good order. Chips to both sides of the front pediment – a hairline on the pediment and slight chipping to the decoration on the front aspect just above 12 o’clock. See all photos to assess.
