SUPERB, RARE LATE 19th. CENTURY DOULTON TOBACCO JAR. This is a wonderful, and I would think quite rare (haven’t seen much of her work in my time), Doulton Lamberth stoneware tobacco jar and cover which dates I would guess from the latter 19th. To the first few years of the 20th. It is depicted in glazed stoneware with fine stylised applied floral images and flower heads over a mottled brown/green ground, while the lid is decorated with applied petals radiating from the knop. The base also has impressed royal Doulton (England) mark, an impressed’1785′ and the artist’s/decorator’s mark – “gs” (for Georgie Smith) – see detailed photographs. It measures 6″ (15.25cm) h x 4″ (10cm) Dia approx; and is in excellent condition with no defect at all to report – see detailed photographs. This is a lovely rare piece of period Doulton stoneware that’s in great condition and with a low start price should have great appeal for all Doulton and Tobacciana collectors alike.
