UNUSUAL DOULTON LAMBETH HAND PAINTED & TUBELINED EWER by EUPHEMIA THATCHER 1894

RARE, & UNUSUAL, EARLY DOULTON LAMBETH HAND PAINTED &. TUBELINED EWER by A. This is quite a rare, and unusual early, stoneware jug designed at the Doulton factory, Lambeth by A. Euphemia Thatcher and assisted by Elizabeth Atkins which dates to the latter 19th. Century (it bears the Lambeth’X’ mark for 1894). It is depicted in a tapering shouldered ovoid form with a large, formed rim, a high looped handle, and stands over a low trumpet foot. While body is decorated with hand painted stylised foliate frieze of, I think, Allium (Giant Onion) flowers and leaves encompassing the circumference of the textured body which in turn is highlighted with hand tube lined bands to the neck and foot. It is back stamped with the above mentioned Doulton Lambeth mark as well as Thatcher’s and Akins’ hand inscribed monograms, plus various other marks – see photographs and details. It measures 10″ (26cm) H (to the top of the handle) x 4″ (10cm) Dia. (across the shoulder) approx; and is in excellent condition with absolutely no defect at all to report. This is a wonderful rare, early, piece of period Doulton Lambeth stoneware by one of their best earlier designers which is in great condition and with a low start price should get considerable interest from all Doulton collectors.
