Doulton Lambeth Faience Vase / Table Lamp Base

DOULTON LAMBETH FAIENCE VASE / TABLE LAMP BASE. Larger vase 13 inches tall. Decorated with tree branches and blossom in green and brown hues. Marked underneath Doulton Lambeth Faience also impressed 1877, not sure if this is a date or a reference number. Very unusually it still has part of the original retailers paper label on the base. Howell & James were a long established firm of jewellers and silversmiths who also opened Art Pottery Galleries some time around 1881, I imagine to compete with their near neighbours Liberty & Co. CONDITION The vase has been later neatly drilled near the base for a cable so it could be used as a tablelamp. The light fitting is no longer there. The glaze has the usual Art Pottery minor flaws, small pimples to the glaze, minor glaze runs and misses.
