A Rare Doulton Lambeth Owl Form Tobacco Jar. A rare owl form tobacco jar with detachable head. Designed by Mark V Marshall as part of a series of animal inspired tableware. Early backstamp, circa 1880. Measures just over 7 inches high. Condition: Head in perfect order. The body has a glaze flake to one of the toes. There are also two hairlines which can be easily seen from the inside. Hardly, if at all visible from the outside. The head and body are a matching pair. A Rare Doulton Sauce Boat By Mark V Marshall. A rarely offered sauce boat designed and constructed by Mark V Marshall for Doulton Lambeth. Inspired by a hog type beast with applied decorative foliage-like fur. MVM monogram to underbelly as well as early Doulton backstamp. Measures approx 9 inches high to the tail end. Condition: Overall excellent cosmetic condition with some expected professional restoration to the upper frills and the tail has been professionally reattached. A Monumental Doulton Lambeth Vase Decorated with Horses by Hannah Barlow. 16
For sale today we have this Large and Impressive Royal Doulton Lambeth for the Art Union of London vase by senior artist Hannah B Barlow. Of tall baluster form and with a stunningly realised central sgrafitto panel that depicts a number of horses in various poses set in a tree lined meadow setting. The borders are fairly simple swirls against a mottled blue ground meaning all of the focus is on Ms Barlow’s fine handiwork! An impressive display size at 16 tall. Marked to the base with a Royal Doulton Lion mark along with assistant mark for Joan Honey. The base of the vase looks like it has been rubbed before being fired as the Art Union of London mark is smudged and hardly discernible and Hannah’s monogram is not visible. The vase will be supplied with a letter from Alexander Clement, curator of the Royal Doulton museum confirming all provenance of the vase, artist, date of manufacture etc. In superb condition being free from any chips, cracks or repairs, guaranteed. An impressive Doulton Lambeth, Pate Sur pate decorated vase, likely to have been made for the Royal Society of British Arts exhibition Circa 1883, beautifully hand decorated with a Seagull group scene which covers the entire body, in a pate sur pate technique which covers the entire body. Hand decorated by Florance Barlow with the borders be decorated by Lucy Barlow. Incised signature of Florence Barlow as shown. This piece is largest enough to be used as a floor vase. H- 54.0 cm, 540 mm. Condition: Excellent condition- displays wonderfully. Highly decorative and oozes quality. Some minor firing ground wears and there has been professional restoration to the foot rim where it had two chips, which is now virtually impossible to see. A Royal Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Vase decorated by Florence C Roberts. Slender shouldered form decorated with tubelined trailing lilac coloured flowers and green leaves. Against a textured buff body. Lion, Crown and Circle mark introduced in 1902, incised FCR monogram and BN for assistant decorator Bessie Newbery, impressed 7089. Florence C Roberts joined the Doulton Lambeth decorating workshop in 1879 and regularly collaborated with Hannah Barlow being a long serving employee until 1930. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department. A Large Impressive Doulton Lambeth Art Nouveau Vase by Frank Butler. Circa 1900
For sale today we have this Absolutely Stunning Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Vase by Senior Artist Frank Butler. Of tall baluster form, the vase features a deeply incised, textured and ribbed design of scrolling stylised leaf forms entwined with sharper, bead highlighted stiff leaves. There are further scalloped forms and Persian inspired leaves to the shoulder border. Fully marked to the base with a Doulton Lambeth “Cog” mark. Incised “FAB” 2082 for Butler along with assistants as shown. A good size at 13 ” tall x 4 1/2″ dia. A truly beautiful vase presented to the market in excellent condition, being free from damage or repair. His superb piece would make a wonderful addition to any serious Doulton collection.
