DOULTON LAMBETH JUG WITH VERSE COMMEMORATING WILLIAM MACCALL C. Height 19,5cm, Diameter 12,5cm. Doulton Lambeth, by Elizabeth Atkins with impressed marks. This stylish stoneware jug stands on a narrow rounded foot with a slightly recessed base and is of rounded bulbous shape with a trumpet shaped top with a shaped pouring spout and loop handle. The body of the vase is decorated with four relief moulded portrait panels each within a sunburst design with the verse applied in relief around each portrait. The verse reads STRAIGHT IS THE LINE OF DUTY, CURVED IS THE LINE OF BEAUTY, FOLLOW THE STRAIGHT LINE THOU SHALT SEE, THE CURVED LINE EVER FOLLOW THEE. The verse is from the works of William Mccall. The jug has contrasting brown colours set against a natural salt glazed finish and has impressed Doulton Lambeth marks along with artist marks for Elizabeth Atkins with assistant marks for Eborah Bissmire and further unidentified marks.
