An Impressive Doulton Lambeth Scrolling Seaweed Vase by George Tinworth
For sale today we have this stunning Art Nouveau period “Scrolling Seaweed” vase by George Tinworth for Royal Doulton Lambeth. Of broad baluster form, the vase features a very dramatic all over incised foliate design that is further enhanced by large ornate rosettes and applied beadwork borders. Deep treacle brown, cobalt blue and white. Stands 25 cm tall x 15 cm across. GT monogram to body, stamped Royal Doulton Lambeth “Lion” mark to the base along with date shield “d”, Bessie Newbury as assistant. In excellent condition, free from chips, cracks or repair. Description: A Doulton Lambeth Toby moon flask decorated in relief with a view of Toby Philpot from the front and back. Mainly all blue Whisky flask with a sterling silver collar, and a stoneware stopper. The stopper is missing the cork. Provenance: David Bearman Collection. George Tinworth Doulton Incised Baluster Vase 40 cm/15.5 inches tall c 1890
George Tinworth 1843 – 1913. Late 19th Century Incised and Beaded vase with tube linning. 12 cm diameter top rim. This is a superb and substantial vase signed on the side with George Tinworth’s monogram. The piece also carries the stamp of Bessie Newbury assistant to Tinworth. Super beaded and incised foliage with tube lining decoration. In very good condition with just a chip on the flat base that looks production and this is located on the base flat rim and not on the side rim – see photos – it does not impact on the piece. A rare and very large and heavy piece from a sought after Doulton Lambeth designer. Inspired by a hog type beast with applied decorative foliage-like fur. MVM monogram to underbelly as well as early Doulton backstamp. Measures approx 9 inches high to the tail end. Condition: Overall excellent cosmetic condition with some expected professional restoration to the upper frills and the tail has been professionally reattached.
