Unusual and Scarce Frank Butler Silver Rimmed Doulton Lambeth Mug Tankard Superb
Rare Doulton Lambeth Tankard or Mug by Frank Butler Produced at Doulton Lambeth 1888 in Truly Remarkable Condition. While example of Butler’s work are not uncommon, they are mostly vases and I cant recall seeing such a Tankard previously. Beautifully decorated with 4 panels of Persian inspired shape and decoration and carved in relief against a stippled background. Two tone blue borders again with the lighter one having a Persian flame type top. Lower section with beaded type rope applied work on brown ground. Hallmarked silver rim London by famous silversmiths Johnson Matthey date 1888. No damage, restoration or crazing. No discernible wear present and all raised areas intact. This has been closely inspected under a loop and UV light to confirm and condition is guaranteed. Silver rim shows typical light surface wear but no dings or dents. Doulton Lambeth rosette mark and FAB for Frank Butler, piece number 197 and other marks to Base. London hallmarks for 1888 to silver rim and JNM makers mark for Johnson Matthey. Width at Base 10cm. Width including handle 13cm.
