Very Rare Doulton & Watts Lambeth Salt-Glazed Stoneware Novelty Gun Flask c1845

These gun flasks are scarce and dont come up for sale that often as they were often broken and the V & A musuem has an identical one. As these are an early Salt-glazed stoneware, they often had many firing flaws. This piece has firing flaws and firing cracks and glaze chip as shown but no major damages or restoration. It is In Excellent display condition and has wear and tear as shown and two cracks around trigger area (possibly firing cracks) and measures 11.5 in length and marked as shown. This is an absolute must for any collection and displays really really well. The Royal Doulton company began as a partnership between John Doulton. London, where Watts was the foreman. They traded as Jones, Watts & Doulton from 1815 until Martha Jones left the partnership in 1820, when the trade name was changed to Doulton & Watts. The business specialised in making salt glaze. Articles, including utilitarian or decorative bottles, jugs and jars, much of it intended for inns and pubs. In 1826 they took over a larger existing pottery on Lambeth High Street. The company took the name Doulton & Co. In 1854 after the retirement of John Watts in 1853 and a merger with Henry Doulton and Co.
